This was the fanciest place (click on link for condo website) we have ever called “home” while on vacation. I decided to take a quick video for two reasons. One, it was just over-the-top. And, two, we needed to move breakable items out of the toddler’s reach. I figured a video would help us remember how to re-decorate when we were done.
First, what we liked? The kitchen appliances. A large refrigerator and “delay start” oven were loverly. Stuff for the kids: a high chair, a portable crib and kids toys were all wonderful additions. The laundry room was gloriously spacious and was used daily. The proximity to the beach (and Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa) couldn’t have been more convenient, the large master bath was perfect for family baths and showers after a day at the beach/pool. Oh, and did you get a glimpse of the potty? Don’t knock it until you try it. I think Matt put the Tot Washlet S300 on his Christmas list.
What was over the top? Um, the decor. Really. Who (above the age of sixteen) digs sequined pillows? And, anybody with an infant knows that glass coffee tables (especially with sharp corners) are a recipe for disaster. The wrap around deck/porch. The electronic entry key (you entered the condo straight from the elevator). The kitchen appliances. The master bedroom closet. And, yes, as much as we hate to admit it, the toilet.
What was lackluster? The kitchen. Yes, the layout was nice, the appliances expensive and it has granite counter tops. But, the knives were cheap and dull, Corelle was in the cabinets (not knocking the stuff, it’s just not gourmet material) much of the cabinets empty and we couldn’t even find standard items like cookie sheets or serving dishes. The (one of three) thermostat we couldn’t quite figure out. Some of the bed linens were a little too worn out to be called luxury.
What we would change? Obviously, several items on the lackluster list. I’d also add some sort of way to listen to music. The cheap boom box just didn’t cut it.
Would we recommend staying here? Yes. With single room oceanfront hotel accommodations costing around $200 (plus 11% tax) and parking at $30/day, the price quickly adds up. With the use of the condo we were able to eat breakfast, lunches and some dinners in as well as enjoy alcoholic beverages we bought locally at Total Wine for a fraction of the cost at a hotel bar.
Just wait until you hear about the spa….
