time travels

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Haven overnight transformed herself from an 18 month old to an 18 year old. Yesterday we witnessed the magical effects of changing time on a toddler.

Naps have been hard this week with the time change. Usually, naps are in the 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. range. But, now after the arrival of the DST fairy, naptime is much more sporadic and questionable, which is making life a little more difficult. On Wednesday, life was really hard. Haven was a moody, inconsolable teenager. Nothing suit her. She didn’t want to eat breakfast, just cereal and milk. Lunch and dinner required some laptop dancing (and singing) by Elmo and even then she wasn’t interested in her meal. She fussed anytime I stopped when I took her on a walk. She wanted me to hold her at the grocery store instead of sitting in the cart. She was pissed the entire way home from the grocery store. She wanted up, she wanted down. She wanted to play with this, then that. It was a constant roller coaster carousel ride full of outbursts. At dinner she chewed up and spit out bread, sipped water only to let it dribble down her chin and threw most everything off her tray. Oy. At one point when she wanted more milk (which was all gone) she literally pulled out two fist fulls of hair out.

I know that we are entering the terrible twos full of tantrums. I guess what bothers me the most is I couldn’t figure out what she needed or wanted. Is this just the time change? It does appear that her lower canines are popping through, so we might be able to blame the teething gods. Although, she hasn’t been waking up at nights… Of course she could be sick…her stools have been less firm than usual. But, she’s not running a temperature. Which brings me back to the teething theory. Will try giving her some acetaminophen or ibuprofren before her nap today.

what happens at girls weekend you ask?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Wouldn’t you like to know!  It’s a secret and only for the girls in attendance to know.  Okay, I will divulge some of the happenings.

This year we missed Phyllis.  But, she was with us in spirit.

We stay up way too late.  I mean WAY too late.  By the time Saturday night rolled around I was falling asleep in conversation.

We talk.  Hence the reason we stay up way too late.

We bring fun things to do.  Magazines, books, crochet projects, movies and games.  But this year we were exceptionally lazy and accomplished very little.  Except for the talking part.

We eat.  Everything from seafood to munchies to homemade treats.  Oh and drink.  Wine, liquor and soda and sweet tea are plenty.  Where was the Hawaiian Punch this year?

We walk on the beach.  We don’t care if it is windy and cold.  We walk on the beach.

Sometimes we shop and find awesome bargains.

Sometimes we jump in the hot tub.

Or, the outside shower.

uncle-goose

My grandmother bought Haven these Uncle Goose blocks and I love them.  They are larger than the standard blocks out there and are so much prettier to look at than any of the other regular blocks I have seen at the store.

The blocks are a little pricier, but are made in the USA.  While I still think these blocks are GORGEOUS, I think I’d have a hard time letting Haven play with them.
