birthday bash

In the not-so-distant future our little one is turning ONE and yes, we are having a birthday party.  Just a small one with family members with cake and ice cream and minimal decorations.  Nothing big and fancy.  While I do look forward to having bigger bashes in the future, I have listened to friends recapping their own birthday party drama.  Tales of parents creating registries at high-end toy stores and parties costing tens of thousands of dollars could push a parent over the edge…or debt.

So, where do you draw the line?  What is “too much” for a party?  How do you stay sane?

I think you do what you believe is right no matter what everyone else is doing. Miss Manners still exists and now you can find her online:) You guys are strong enough to do this and always have…Also, I try to keep in mind that I want my son to always have additional things to look forward to, so if I give him everything now, then what?? I’m interested in hearing how others think about it.
