ginger lemonade

(Over 100 Years Old)
1/2 cup vinegar
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoonfuls ginger

Mix together in quart pitcher, fill with ice water. It is a cooling drink and almost as good as lemondade, some preferring it.

I like it better than regular lemonade. I’ve always enjoyed a slightly sweet, but good n’ tart lemonade, so maybe the tartness of the ginger lemonade just suits me well.

I’m sure it also makes your tummy feel better, like many other ginger remedies, though probably only if the vinegar doesn’t add too much acid for your tolerance.

Vinegar?! Wow. I’d never think of vinegar in a lemonade. How does it compare to regular ole’ super-sweet southern lemonade?

  3. Meredith says:

Interesting! Sounds like a good substitute when you don’t have any fresh lemons on hand.

Did you use regular powdered ginger, or do you think it means some kind of grated ginger?

  4. Laura says:

I used fresh ginger I chopped up finely. I’m somewhat skeptical of the powdered stuff unless I am in a pinch. I also watered the recipe down a bit and decreased the sugar to taste. Tweak to your liking.

I am trying this ASAP. I also like a tart, slightly sweet lemonade – and the tummy benefits are definitely a huge plus! Thanks for the great suggestion!!!
